A 4,000 mile bike trip to raise funds & awareness for people with disabilities
4,000 miles done!
Pleasantly surprised by Pittsburgh – second best city on the trip in my opinion! The ride was long, our last century, and had some hiccups – but was still fun. We stayed at the YMCA both nights, definitely our tightest fit yet. First night we went to an alumni-owned sports memorabilia shop for dinner and had free access to the arcade. On our day off we had an awesome friendship visit with Always B Smiling, where we got to go on a bike ride with the friends! To top it off we got free Pirates tickets from an alumni! Great way to spend our last off day!
It felt good to be back in the bike! It was a beautiful ride through wooded hills. We had a super fun friendship visit full of face paint, balloon animals, and dancing!
Our ride was called off due to a heavy rain the morning – We were upset about it until we stepped outside, then the vans didn’t seem like such a bad idea. We stayed at a nice Greek Orthodox church, which provided us with some delicious, authentic greek food. Spent our day off watching movies and exploring Cleveland
Nice ride today. Friendship and lodging from Ability Works, another great organization. A group of us got together and managed to get discounted tickets to Cedar Point after dinner! Unfortunately, a big storm blew through and shut down the park before we could get on any rides. Ended up getting drenched but managed to talk our way into a refund! Still made great memories!
Made it through the ride today -- late night and early morning didn’t make it the easiest. Spent the day at the Sunshine Center, which was an amazing facility. Got Burrito Truck lunch with a lemonade stand waiting for us! Topped of with karaoke and a movie that night, it was an awesome day!
The ride today was beautiful, one of my favorites on the trip. Weather was perfect and the scenery was amazing. Got one of my teammates his first first place finish too! Had a really fun friendship visit with the Eisenhower Center, and the guys took me out for my 21st birthday, which was a lot of fun!
Super fun day today! It was a hot one, so my pace line decided to jump into as many bodies of water as we could! Final count was 16 — some nicer than others. East Lansing was a pretty cool college town, and we had a great dinner at Beggars Banquet and Cold Stone for dessert!
Lots of hills and gravel today. Stayed at a dorm building at Western Michigan University. Had a fun friendship visit with the Arc and then watched Fantastic Four as a team!
Another surprise visit on the road to South Bend! Plus the 100 McNuggest Challenge!!
A nice easy ride into Chicago. A great reception from family and friends at Envision Unlimited. And an ice cream truck waiting for the team in Oak Park! (Thanks Uncle Luke!)
Epic ride-along with Mike, Eric & Brian (and Mike's bike!) from the '91 North team!!
Had to ride in the vans because of thunderstorms, but got a surprise visit in Madison!!!
Tough ride with lots of gravel, steep hills, and both at the same time, but it was a great day and a beautiful ride! We then got to play baseball with the Hills & Dale group, and some kids from the area! Leaving Iowa tomorrow and heading into Wisconsin!
Lot of gravel roads in the beginning made it pretty tough. Later in the day we rode along the Mississippi and caught a glimpse of Illinois! Had a super fun friendship visit and got to play some kickball. Met a cool guy named Paul, who is going to play in the state special olympics softball tournament this weekend!
The ride into Iowa City was only 35 miles, but a surprising amount of steep hills and a headwind made it one of the tougher days in the Midwest so far. Super cool to see the University of Iowa campus, and had another great friendship visit!
Cedar Rapids was a super cool city, and a lot bigger than we were expecting. We were generously housed by the Arc of Cedar Rapids, who also cooked us a very Iowan dinner with maidrite sandwiches, jello pudding, and snickers salad! We then got to help out with their softball league. Lots of fun!
Super fun ride today. The weather was beautiful and Iowa keeps surprising us! Mostly bike trail today, which was a great change of pace!
Thanks to the Adickes family, we had a movie theater rented out and watched the new Superman movie. For our off day, they rented out an entire pool! Fun couple of days!
Rode into Iowa today. We’re staying at a Creighton University Retreat, and thanks to the Adickes family we got to hang out at a quarry for a few hours and had some amazing homemade pork tenderloin for dinner!
In Omaha, we visited the Spina Bifida Association of Nebraska. We played some games and got to try our hand at wheelchair softball. Later that night we closed it out with a dance party at the Arc of Omaha! A fun, hot day!
Not a bad ride, but it's getting real hot in the Midwest. Had a great time at a dance party with the Arc of Lincoln and got a chance to walk around the U of N campus!
The mayor was there to welcome us when we rode into Grand Island. We have a busy two days here with the Arc of Central Nebraska.
The ride into Minden was 95 miles of rolling hills topped off with a headwind at the end. The local Elks Lodge grilled us burgers and hotdogs 😋
Rode into Nebraska and the Midwest. Welcomed by lots of casseroles 😋
Goodbye mountains 😮💨 Happy Fourth of July!

Big climbs up Vail and Loveland Passes, with freezing rain, lightning, hail, and wind getting us on the downhill. The beautiful views made up for it — definitely one of my favorite rides so far. We are now at Rocky Mountain Village Easterseals Camp, having a great time!
Great day off at Rocky Mountain Village! We hung out with the campers all day, doing camp activities. We fished for trout, climbed rock walls, played sports, did arts and crafts, and participated in the talent show. Met some amazing people, had some great food, and overall had an awesome time! With beautiful views to top it off, this was a day to remember
Long ride today, but we made it. Jumped into the Eagle River mid-ride!
Blew my tire on the way in to Steamboat, but got to go on a river float once we got there. Got dinner with Horizons Specialized Services and ice cream with Bruce Rodgers
(who rode the very first Journey of Hope in 1987!)
A big surprise in the middle of nowhere, Colorado! 💙

Pretty easy 60-miler today into Vernal. The scenery changed completely from forest to red desert, which was very beautiful. After showers and laundry, the team hiked to a cliff jumping spot in Red Fleet State Park – the jump was almost 50 feet!. The area is known for its fossils, and we saw some fossilized dinosaur footprints on our hike. We're staying at the Vernal Elk Lodge tonight. Big day tomorrow!
👍
Tough hill today after our days off. Got to jump into the Starvation Resevoir, which was a lot of fun. Had a friendship visit and dinner with the Duchesne Lions Club, where we met a kid who traced his ancestors back to the 900s. Sleeping in the county high school tonight
